Common Death Adder
The Common Death Adder is native to Australia and is one of the most venomous snakes in the world. It can be found all down the East Coast of Australia, and along some of the Southern Coast too. It is found in forests, woodlands, grasslands and heaths. It is a master of camouflage, due to its band stripes, hiding beneath loose leaf litter and debris in its habitat.
The Common Death Adder is the fastest striking snake in the world, and to make things worse, it has a 50-60% untreated mortality rate. It can go from a strike position, to strike and envenoming their prey, and back to strike position again, in less than 0.15 seconds.
